Is there an online source where I see parts breakdowns and get part numbers for my 160 Mercruiser components? At the moment the part in question is the voltage regulator.
SN 2497444

I checked iboats but it didn't seem to get any deeper than the alternator. Mine has an external regulator.

thanks...much help
but it says the voltage regulator I need is no longer available...imagine that...it's only a 37 year old boat.
Any suggestions for a retrofit?

A mechanic here at the shop suggested the same thing, xltier. I'll have to look into that if the regulator does indeed end up needing replaced.
thanks

Good point lilmandavis. Automotive alternators are not safe in confined spaces. Thunderroad, if you still have your old alternator, the right shop can rebuild almost anything.

Or if its a Delco type you can go to the autoparts store and buy a one wire and install these screens....
Alternator checked out ok...regulator ok...must have been a connection problem. Seems to work fine. I'll keep my eye on it. I'm familiar with those types of screens. We used to sell and install them on combines at the CaseIH dealership. Grain dust is just about as explosive as gasoline. It came to us in a service bulletin from the company so it must have been a proven theory that they worked. Never had a problem.
