1988 johnson 140 hp looper
I am having trouble staying at full power. Runs about 36mph for 5 seconds then drops to about 32mph. Normally runs at 43mph. Trying to determine if it is ignition or fuel problem. My question is can I replace the vro fuel pump with a normal fuel pump from a 110 johnson, or will I not get enough fuel delivery at high rpms?? Seems like cylinder 3 is not firing right as plug is black and sooty. Not sure if my problem is ignition or fuel or both. Still have a slight miss at idle but noticed if I removed plug wire from cyl 3 the miss clears. Only ignition part I have not replaced is timer base. I replaced all plugs and no change. Thanks.
