after spending several hours outside Sat. moving<br />snow and fixing the broken hinge on the basement<br />walk-out door, I came in for a short break and<br />popped a cold one. even logged in here and made<br />a few posts.<br />soon after my wife pulled up with a van full of<br />groceries and beeped for MY assistance. threw on<br />my sneakers and headed out the back door. got<br />about 5 feet from the stairs when I stepped on a<br />patch of ice with left foot... ankle turned as<br />I fell squarely on my keester. <br />problem is, on the way down I heard a loud "snap".<br />guess what?... broken ankle!<br />and to think I played ice hockey for 10yrs.<br />have an air cast/splint on now and will be seeing<br />the ortho. at 1pm today. just hoping for an air<br />cast and not a hard cast.<br /><br />sometimes you get lucky in life, sometimes you<br />don't.

MY thats terrible.

I guess for the next 6-8 weeks you'll be laid up. Hope you get a soft cast like you want. Either way, its a miserable inconvenience to say the least. <br /><br />Wishing you the best.

See what you get for trying to be a nice guy! Sorry to hear about it. I played a lot of hockey as a young un, body just doesn't heal as easy as it used to now. Have a speedy recovery.

I think I know the siver lining to this cloud....<br /><br />At least it didn't happen at the beginning of boating/fishing season. Ought to be in pretty good shape when that get's here MY.

Hi Mellowyellow,<br /><br />Best of luck with the doc, and welcome to the club, it happens so easily even after in my case, a lifetime of climbing and high altitude trekking. I broke my ankle in a rock slide 10,000 ft up in the Himalayas Oct 2002, had to strap it up and walk on it for a week back to civilization (Kathmandu)then wait another 2 weeks to get home to Australia. Had an operation the day after I got home, ankle had to be rebroken and a 6" plate and 6 screws inserted, had some major hassles with bone infections because of the long time delay before medical treatment with another operation August 2003 and removal of plate and screws.<br /><br />I am finally able to go climbing the hills around home again and do some serious boating, life is getting better again, back to see all my old friends in Nepal for the 10th time in September.<br /><br />Hope in your case the surgeon doesn't have to operate and you are back on your feet to enjoy the boating / fishing season later on, keep us informed of your progress.<br /><br />Bob

If it makes you feel any better, I'm in the same boat, but with a concussion instead of a busted ankle.<br />In parking lot yesterday morning, I'm walking around my jeep and step into an ice patch (the kind that's made when cars drive on the snow) and my feet come right out from under me. Wouldn't have been much more than a sore butt, except it was the back of my head that broke the fall on the bumper of my jeep.<br />Friggin' newer vehicles. A '98 jeep with a bumper dented by my head.<br />Edit: At least I didn't cause the airbags to deploy. THis hrts, need another brew.
