Ok , guys - I tossed the Idea into the ring , and EdC suggested an open discussion So here is the can of worms...
I 'm suggesting a get together up here in New England / the north east .
Points to Ponder.....
1>. Where ? Fresh water / Salt water / what state ???
2>. When ? My thoughts are Non holiday weekend ...IE July 18th weekend -lose the crouds / nuts / less than sober /IQ impaired boater wannabee's. Maybe later in the summer or early fall ?
3>. How long ? one day ? a weekend ?
4>. All these Ideas are fluid ---change everything --do nothing with 'em -- shoot em down , No hard feelings . peter

hey peter that sounds cool i would like to see an mfg thats in good working order get some ideas. my boat won't be ready unless the boat fairys fix it while i'm at work. what ever you guys want to do.a day trip sounds good

mine is 17'3" loa. so I feel left out,every body else are smaller.and out boards
as for the get-together WOW!! Mass.would be a real tow for me, from ohio.

I didn't say anything was set , only throwing out the topic to discussion.
there are alot of ideas and options and wouldn't toss anything out .
I have heard other groups talk of Lake Sebago Me ,The Conntitcut river , Long island sound , and Naragansett ,and buzzards bay are options too . I'm not sticking to salt water - just know most Ma. lakes are under 1700 ac . We'd want room to zoom!
Hey !! BIG BRAIN FART!!! Any good lakes near Union City PA??? Why not make it a Home Coming Cruise???? Most of our older boats are celebrating their 50th birthday too ?? (Every body say Pete you dummy lake Eirie is near)
Again trying to include everyone and I don't need to lead the show.

Hi PD,
I don't know if Erie would be a good idea for these little boats,it can turn NASTY in a hurry!
there was a post on another forum,the fellow picked up a boat close to union city and was asking about the MFG factory,was told it is still there, but they just make the glass hoods for semis and school buses now.
but they have a couple boats in the front office area,but he didn't get to see them as it was a sunday (bummer)
Iknow the plant in Ashtabula ohio is still going,when I drove semi (before medical retirement) I hauled out of there.
could not get anybody to conferm or deney that the molds for the boats were there or in union city.

Ok.....
I got some ideas....

If the majority wants to do a "on the water" I say fresh. Our boats are smaller and new skippers might not feel comfortable in larger swells.
Do we need to do an "On the water"? What about the the guys who want to show off their project boats. An on the water meet may not encourage them to come.
Maybe a combination of the two Kind like a car show thing. Perhaps a state or national park that has facilities to do both. That would allow a one day or weekend meet with camping or picnicing etc
Over on Fiberclassics, there is a group called FGNE. I'm sure, some ideas could be found there. How about teaming up with them?
Lastly, might we consider a first meet at one of the classic boat shows. Very informal of coarse, besides no real work on our part

yea the fellows over there at fgne have a meet set at silver lake it is south east of buffalo Ny,I think it is some time in june. still that is a long ways for you and me.

ED has a good idea with a weekend camping - boat show of event as it would include the two summer time enjoyments i do with my family.

One problem i have found is a lot of the camp ground that are on lakes now only allow the seasonal to bring boats. Not the weekend journeyers.

I'm open for salt or fresh water.

Salisbury beach reservation includes camping and water fun but the mouth of the Merrimac is a hit or mis for the little boats but we could always adventure up river.

VW, not sure about any where else, but alot of our local marinas (Sebago Lake) allow you to park your boat there if you by a luanch pass for the weekend or week. Sebago Lake camground actually has parking for there campers boats out front. there is usually 5-8 open spots on any given day.

I was hoping to see more response on this because it seems like a great idea. I live in Maine and my in-laws have a place on Sebago Lake so I'm certainly not oppose to having it there. In any case, I have a vehicle and a trailer so it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if it's somewhere else.

I'm still pulling everything together for the L.I. run . I do have the 28th to the 6th off and most weekends .. Dose anyone like the sound of an early fall / foliage tour in Sebago ?? --I know it limits attendance with the distance but would be worth the trip .
The other suggestion I'll make is Webster lake, (Lake Chungabungamerfungabunga -or something like that ) on the Ma. RI border . It's 12700ac couple of islands to sail arround , reported good fishing too . On my too do list on way or the other , and more central to NE. peter
