My boat came with an in-hull transducer depth finder. Does anyone have any opinions on these? Do they work better/worse than transom mount? Do they need cleaning/maintenance? Thanks.

Re: Opinions on In-Hull Transducers

Started out with a transom mount. Couldn't get it to read w/o interference at WOT. Installed the transducer inside a fluid tank in the hull (shoot thru) and got very good results with little loss of sensitivity. I would never use a transom mount again.

I've since installed a thru hull (hole in hull) transducer and have no loss of sensitivity and can run WOT w/o a hint of inference.

SONARs, and their transducers, become obsolete, break, wear out, etc. far more often than do boat hulls. Un-making a hole in a hull is a pain in the neck.

A properly installed transom mounted transducer, like a Lowrance/Eagle Skimmer, will do me just fine, thank you. :)
