Re: opinions on new bottom paint

"Clear Coat Bottom Paint<br /><br />Dolphinite's Clear Coat Bottom Paint is the first EPA-approved clear coat paint that provides anti-fouling protection for both fresh and saltwater boats. This high-strength, ultra-slick formula protects against zebra mussels, algae, and slime build-up. Dolphinite Clear Coat Bottom Paint is a biodegradable anti-foulant that protects against ultra-violet rays. This clear, self-polishing paint eliminates any hassles related to color matching. The revolutionary formula, when immersed in water, creates a hydrophilic sheen by binding a layer of water to the boat's hull. This hydrophilic sheen reduces hull drag resulting in increased relative speed and fuel efficiency. Independent, close course testing has unveiled unprecedented results confirming an increase in hull speed up to 22% as well as a 16% increase in fuel efficiency. Dolphinite's Clear Coat Bottom Paint is safe to use and easy to apply on wood, aluminum, and fiberglass boats."<br /><br />too good to be true???

Re: opinions on new bottom paint

That does sound too good to be true. I'd love to see the stuff in action! At 16% better fuel economy it would pay for itself in no time. By far the most popular bottom paint used here is Interlux fiberglass X X X (non-sloughing copper based). I just did mine so I made a few calls and went around to see what was being used. Best durability/vs. cost I am told. I used it a couple months back... no problems yet and I'm in a marina that has major 'growth' issues. My inlaws are moored next to me, they used a bargain paint a month before I did mine and they have an inch of green slime on theirs already. If you don't buy that new dolphinite 'miracle' stuff make sure you buy a proven brand name paint made for your application. Hope this helps.
