Anyone have an opinion on Stingray boats??<br />I have been thinking about a late model boat (possibly new). I have looked at many makers,Bayliner,Maxum,Glastron, and many others.<br />I am looking in the 20-22 foot range mainly for inland lakes and reservoirs. I want a good quality boat for the good price.<br /><br />Anyone have any thoughts on Stingrays??<br />Any and all help is appreciated.<br />Thanks

Re: Opinions on Stingray Boats

I really like the 20' MS center console. I want to get one with the little diesel. I was told by my wife no new boats until I get rid of my bluewater. Anyway I found that the performance numbers on stingray boats seem to be a little better that a like boat from a different manufacturer. I looked at them last year at the boat shows but there 20 ft model wouldn't fit in the garage. Really nice looking boats.

Re: Opinions on Stingray Boats

my buddy has a 2002 22' deck boat. been out on it quite a few times. from what i can tell, a great boat for the price. he got his entire rig, with upgraded 260hp merc, and dual axle roller trailer for 30k. rides like a beast (close to 50 mph). has good storage, enclosed head, radio/cd, fresh water reserve. most other boats with the same options will cost you close to 50k. with all that said, quality of construction is probably not the best. i'd call it a value boat- fiberglass encased wood stringers, little foam, deck/hull seams bolted not welded, etc. but for the money, and if you take care of it- a great buy. good luck-

Stingray designs haven't kept up with the fashion parade, but I still like them. The price is usually good on them. The Stingray models that are built in higher volume do not have wood in their stringers.<br /><br />Of course there are lots of brands in this size range. Here are some more threads on brands -<br /><br /> New Boat <br /><br /> Trailer Boats Boards » Boats » Please help with my boat decision <br /><br />And one thread just on Stingray -<br /><br /> Trailer Boats Boards » Boats » Stingray Boats <br /><br />Kelly Cook

We also looked at all the big name boats before we made our purchase. The VEC process helped the Glastron rise to the top of our list. This boat is well made and we have put 30 trouble free hours on ours, and I'm glad we bought it. <br /><br />The Stingray gave up too much bow space with it's pointed nose, IMO.

I have a Stingray, a '95 656 ZP. This boat is now called the 220LX in their line-up. I has the 260hp, 350ci motor with a Mercury High Five prop and tops out about 57 mph. I have had it two seasons, bought it from my cousin, and have been very please with it. No problems so far, it has 255 hours on it now.

Thanks for all the feedback.<br /><br />I like the stingrays and the company. The fact that it is a privately owned company and not owned by the big corp.(Brunswick/Genmar etc.) is a plus for me. Ther company seems stable and has the best website on the net .<br />Thanks for the feedback, any other opinions are welcome.

Re: Opinions on Stingray Boats

Wow.. great thread.. couple questions..<br />I am looking to buy my first boat.. I want a deckboat and the new 2004 StingRay 220DR looks very nice and is a great price compared to the similar Sea Ray, Charavelle, Four Wins, etc. brands.<br /><br />I read this earlier in the post...<br />"All 240L 240C and 220D models as well as boats with a 3.0 liter engines have stringers made from treated wood encapsulated in fiberglass. All other models have stringers made from 100% fiberglass."<br /><br />Does that mean that the 2004 StingRay 220DR deck boats have wood encapsulated in fiberglass?<br /><br />What exactly are stringers..? sorry for the newbie questions.. lol<br /><br />What is the drawback to getting wood versus all fiberglass? Isn't the rest of the hull on these boats all fiberglass?<br /><br />By the way.. I tried to get into the forum with the Guest user name but had no luck.. I was hoping one of your guys could email me and let me know how to get in, or actually post my email address on the forum and ask if any current 220DR owners could email me to discuss the boat and how they like it, etc. Let me know if you don't mind doing this.. thanks

Re: Opinions on Stingray Boats

I am not sure if that stringer info is correct or not. The fiberglass encapsulated wood is fine if the glass is done perfect and the wood does not get wet.<br />I have been told that the glass stringers are more for weight savings than rott problems. I dont know if I beleive that though. Maybe some expert here could chime in.<br />I would confirm the type of stringers before you let it steer you one way or the other.

Re: Opinions on Stingray Boats

i have a 1991 656zp w/carb 5.7 alpha gen 2. it is my first boat. I got it about 230hrs. I have 360 on it and it is just great. i still use the default 21deg alum prop and w/o tune up i go 44 mph. I wonder if i tickle it and tune up with a stainless prop, if i can get 55mph as spec'd ?
