Re: opinions wanted on mooring fenders
I am not sure what you mean by mooring fenders.
Second, how big is your boat? I would guess 22 to 24 feet.
If you store your boat on the trailer then you can likely get by with 3 fenders.
For the bow I would get a fender 10 by 30 inches or larger and make sure it has an inflation valve. This is the fender that will be up on the curved part of the boat and will take 90 percent of the impact when coming up to the dock.
For the back 10 by 30 is also a good size. 8 by 27 can be used also.
In the middle 8 by 27 is a good size for my boat.
My boat is a 21 foot runabout and the the fenders above are what I use.
Taylor Made is my favorite brand and they have a life time warranty. One with no inflation valve will over time loose some air. Also in winter when it is cold and you are at sea level they will be half deflated. In summer when it is hot and at high elevations they will be hard and full. I had one split and I took it in the car and went to west marine to ask where I have to send them to to get replaced. Guy at west marine said just bring it to us and we will raplace it. Went back out to the car and got the fender and then the guy said go get one the same size and bring it up here. I got one the same size but a different color and he rang it took the old fender and said no charge.
One thing I will tell you is most people buy too small the first time.
If your docking your boat at a marina I think the round fenders work better. also use spring lines from both sides of the boat.
