Is it normal for my NGK PZFR5F plugs to be fouled after one season of fishing and trolling with a 1998 135 Optimax?
Can i clean the plugs and re-use?
Should I be using a different heat range or different plug?
Should I decarbonize before I put in clean plugs? I admit that I do not have 100% DFI Optimax Oil in the reservoir. Would it stop fouling if i switched to 100% Optimax DFI oil?

Re: Optimax oil fouled plugs Help

You shouldn't run anything but Opti oil in an Opti. That's what it needs. That's why they make it. Other oils foul the sparkplugs and much worse. There is an Iridium sparkplug that does much better than the Platinum plug. I don't have the number, but a Merc dealer will and they'll have the plugs. They're about $20 each, but well worth it. Don't gap them, don't clean them. They are rather fragile in that regard. But don't waste your money on them til you get all Opti oil in the motor.

Re: Optimax oil fouled plugs Help

I had bought a 2 gallon jug of Optimax synthetic but have not put it in yet. Should I decarbonized the engine before putting in new plugs? I also had put Sta-Bil in the fuel tank last fall. Does this increase the rate of fouling?
Any opinion of Seafoam vs. Quick Kleen?
