Anyone done it? What to expect from customs? How long for delivery. How much for shipping? I need new impeller for Mariner 60.

i order stuff from the states all the time, i have done hundreds of transactions, it is not a big deal just going regular postage services(an impeller will go regular service) its only when you start shipping full size boats and cars that you have to worry about customs... how long it takes depends on the method used, you can get stuff next day, but it will be more expensive then the convential 7- 10 business day method(paid between $3-$15 for packages around that size/weight)... Sometimes there will be small customs fees on stuff, but on a 20$ impeller i doubt it, and if there was it would only be like 1.00 at the most...

If you use USPS to ship you wont have any problems. If you ship with a courier you will get stung on brokerage fees. UPS is the worst company you can ship with crossing the border, their fees are ridiculous. Allow about 3 weeks for delivery.

Well, I went the web site and through the checkout to see what the charges would be. No choice was given on shipping method when I put in a Canadian postal code.
Part $25USD, shipping customs etc. $24USD. I can buy the impeller from the local Mercury dealer for $55CDN. I think I will go to dealer.

Thanks for the comments.

I've had similar experiences. The part cost is often less expensive from the USA but by the time you add in shipping, duties, taxes and the dollar conversion the item always costs more than you could buy it locally.

The other thing to consider is the delivery time. Sending from the USA in a "cost effective way" means waiting 10-14 days while you can drive to the local supplier and pick up the part the same day in most cases.

Agreed that the best way to ship into Canada is by USPS whenever possible. The larger couriers impose outrageous brokerage fees and often incur customs fees as well.

Dealer was out of stock on Saturday. Should have this week. Went to another marina who is not a Mercury/Mariner dealer and he said I had to go to the other dealer I was just at for Mariner parts all the time I was looking a Quicksilver impellers on the peg board behind him. He didn't even ask what engine or impeller. I guess they aren't that hard up for business.

NoKlu is absolutely correct on this. Never ship UPS across the border or all of those brokerage fees, taxes, elevated shipping costs, etc will be yours.
Ask for USPS (not UPS) and the costs will be reasonable and make it worth it. However you will probably have a slightly longer shipping time, as NoKlu states.
Whenever I have bought something off of EBAY I always specifically request NO UPS please, USPS only and usually the seller is pretty good about it.
With the Cdn$ on the rise again I'm starting to watch the parts, etc out of the U.S myself.;)
My two bits.:)

I save money by buying out of the US when ever I can. If you are not in a hurry to get the Item, and they will ship via post, you will save money. I have a quad that I seem to break quite a bit and the parts in Canada are double what the US price is. I think I only had duty charges on one item in the last 3 years through the post office. I won't get the part from a dealer if they won't mail it.

When I am really not in hurry I have friends in Buffalo I can ship to their address and they bring over next trip. Can't wait that long this time.
