Oso land slide tragedy

I travel the highway weekly that has wiped out a comunity of around thirty homes. My wife knows many who have been buried alive. She has seen flags around the field of mud marking the bodies that cannot be recovered yet.
Through this sad time I am seeing MANY good things happen. I believe we can celebrate the life we enjoy instead of only grieving the losses of others.
Our loved ones can be eliminated in seconds. I tell my wife often that she deserves the best I can possibly give her, and I mean it.
I am going to take her out on the boat and enjoy the life we have been blessed with. That mountain could have taken her and Im glad it didnt.

Cheers my new boating friends

I, for one, can't seem to wrap my head around this tragedy.
I see it, understand what happened, but am confused as to what to say about it.

Impossible to ignore, yet difficult to discuss.

Glad you are finding hope in blessings in your daily life.

Hoping for peace and the best of all possible outcomes, for all of those affected.

Re: Oso land slide tragedy

This tragedy, as with all tragedies can be very hard to understand. As a firefighter, the Boston Beacon Street fire is a tough one. We had a 20 house, 6 alarm fire last night with no loss of life, only a firefighter with a broken arm, but 20 families without a home and possessions today. The Malaysian flight ... the list can go on and on. Tragedies are a part of our lives and how we handle them can make us stronger, more resilient, and better equipped for tomorrow, or they can defeat us. We all deal with them differently, but in the end, if the tragedy defines us, we are lost. If we define the tragedy, we can move forward, better than before. Bullrider, good for you for seeing the positive without diminishing the negative. The Oso mud slide is sad. It is horrific, and as the death toll climbs, gets sadder by the minute. But if those of us that are still alive can take some good away from this and treat our fellow man with a little more love and compassion because life is precious and it can be gone in nanosecond, well, we have succeeded and bettered our selves and our surroundings.

My thoughts and prayers continue to be for those missing, and the families of those missing and lost. Also for the rescue personnel and their families. My thoughts and prayers are for the families of the 2 lost firefighters in Boston, and for the brotherhood of firefighters around the globe mourning their loss. Also for the 13+ firefighters that were injured. And also for those that are suffering through tragedies all over, that they find the peace and healing they need.
