Ouachita steering

hello everyone, new here and hoping for some help. I own a 1974 Ouachita bass boat. I mostly like everything about the boat except one thing, the steering. The steering wheel is almost horizontal, like an old bus. But when I google image search the same boat, they all have different consoles or atleast more vertical wheels. If possible, i would love to convert it. Can anyone share some advice on what step to take next. Thanks in advance

Thanks and I'll add some pictures when I get home. I just hope it's not too much work. The old steering cable is bad enough to deal with. Which I plan on replacing, I just don't want to feel like I'm driving a peterbilt
