out drive shims alph1 gen 2

I have removed the retainer ring from the drive yoke once i had all the parts layed out there are no shims in there. and they are in the pic in the mercruiser manual do they need to be in there. Do i need to get new ones to replace them. Alpha 1 Gen 2 ol850536

It may not have required shims. Or someone before you left them out. Hard to say which, but you can't just randomly throw some shims in it. You need the special tool for checking gear height to find out what shims you need.

there may be shims in the housing or stuck to the part you pulled out sometimes very thin and not noticeable if you are not familar with what to look for.

there are no shims not even little thin ones. I assume that i will not need any shims for the alignment when i reinstall the yoke.
