Outboard and L-drive powerheads the same?

I own a 1989 Bayliner with a 1989 Force 125hp Outboard on it. I want to buy a tachometer to install. I have found an original style tach to buy but it does not specify if it is for an outboard or the L-Drive. From reading my manual I can tell that both engines have the same Prestolite magneto CD ignitions but I can't tell if they have the same alternator configurations.

Will this matter for the operation of the tachometer?

Or do both motors use the same style tachometer?

Any Advice would be great!
Thanks!

The tach will work IF it is specified as a 20 pole tach.

Both have 20-pole stators; the tach will work.
