Like mentioned before, use some kind of tansom support/saver on the motor. But don't use the bunge that comes with many of them. While going over bumps ect....the motor may come out of the bracket and slam down. Trust me.....
I use a pull strap to secure the motor to the backet, attached to the trailer. It's been working fine so far this summer.

If you are that concerned just take it off. It’s only a 15hp…. This way you save the transom and your lower unit. ;)

I don't know from transom savers..

So after some thought, I am gonna do the following.

Y shaped piece of steel, the leg under the cav plate sits in the V of the Y... bungie strap goes from the top of the Y over the leg and holds it in place.

bottom of the Y is hinged to the trailer under the motor.

That way the trailer supports the majority of the weight.... and I can stop worrying about hitting the skeg or getting busted by the cops
for covering the plates, (with it down)

or tearing/cracking the transom with it up...

anyone seen anything like that??

rgds

Frank

franki, you're kidding right ;)
one thing to think about. i just ckd out raoul's link, and that is basically what was on my trailer when i got it used. the TS mounted on a bolt off the bottom of the trailer, and the weight of my old 70hp just wore it out. i was afraid it would snap the TS or bolt, so i added another "U" at the bottom to align the straight shaft of the TS with the frame. since my boat had alittle overhang, i had the U at an angle to prevent hitting the hull. there are some really cool TS's that are hinged to swing left/right and latch to trailer when not in use. i think they even come optional on some of the newer bassrockets... BTW most of the TS's i've seen were just aluminum tubing or cast alum.
