Hello.
I heard it said that OMC went from 35 hp in the fifties to 55 horse in the late seventies basicly by using the same block, but boring the cylinders out a bit more every time.
The result of that supposedly was that the old 35s last forever while the fifties tend to blow their engines a lot more.
With this in mind, I am looking to buy either a three cylinder 60 horse or if above mentioned story is just hog wash a 2 cylinder 55.
Does anybody out there have any thoughts or opinions about this? I will greatly value your comments.
Thank you.

Re: outboard engine blocks.

rolmops,

I think there were more changes than just boring them out. However, they were very similar.

Actually, the 2-cyl. went up to a 60 (crank rated).

The 3-cyl. at 60 hp., in my opinion, is a very underated (non stressed) engine.
