If this gets posted,I'll be shocked since it will be the 4th time I've tried.. Anyhow, I have 50hp l986 Force which will start and idle fine, but the moment I try to accelerate it dies Unless I hold the choke closed.. ?????

Re: outboard engine problems

Sound like it is running lean to me.

Maybe adjustment, maybe rebuild the carb time.

Perhaps a fuel filter.

Just my thoughts. :)

Re: outboard engine problems

boating fool
thanks for the info on how to get to my posts I'm kind of new to this thing.
Anyway I've tried cleaning the carb and the fuel filter to no avail. I can only find one adjustment screw on the carb and that is for slow speed. I guess I will try and rebuild both and see what happens!
Thanks again!

Hey rshiffer....if ya got to hold the choke to keep it running, then ya still got carb problems. Did you check the high speed jets for pluggage?

Yes rebuild!!!
Not clean.

I think cleaning is o.k. for routine maintenance but once you start having problems a rebuild is the best road to take.

No problem with the help on posts!! ;)
