Hey guys, I'm currently running a 30lb Minn Kota off a 109ah battery. I'm wonding if this is going to be sufficent for longer day trips. I'm thinking about getting an outboard, but I dont want to spend more than 300 on one. I've seen these Hankai chinese on ebay but very hesitant to pull the trigger on that. What would you guys reccomend? Stay with the trolling? I'm not sure....

Re: Outboard for a Mariner 4

I had a look at these Hangkai outboards. Interesting in a primitive kind of way. And there are numerous reviews about them on other forums. Hull Truth etc.

Personally, I would take some type of solar charger with me because I can't see anyone running their trolling 8 hours continuously. Not that a solar trickle charger would top off the battery in a hour, but it would give you a little piece of mind when the batt. strength runs low and you are sitting in a spot fishing, or exploring the shore area.

That said - I have a Tohatsu outboard and I bring oars. :)

Re: Outboard for a Mariner 4

How fast do you think a 2-3 hp outboard could push a Mariner 4, usually with a load of about 500lbs, boat and all? I swear I think that my 30lb MK gets me close to 5mph on calm water. What would it take to push that up to 8-10? or is that too fast for that boat? an outboard appeals to me because I can take some gas and never worry about how much time I have left. Or should I just buy a smaller back up battery?

Does a bigger trolling motor, 55lb maybe, actually have more speed or just more acceleration?

Re: Outboard for a Mariner 4

Ok guys, I need a couple quick opinions. Would a 1.2hp evenrude junior be worth me pulling the trigger on? Local buy, 150 bucks? For a mariner 4. How fast do you think it may run?
THANKS
