Hello, I have a 1994 Merury 135 outboard. When I change the lower gear lube I only get out about 1/4 of what the specs say it holds. When I fill it I always keep filling until the lube comes out the hole in the top. Am I doing something worng? I drain the motor in the vertical positon and I know there are no leaks. I can only get about 11 oz in it and the spec say it hold about 23 oz.

As long as it's coming out the right color and you're doing it right, I wouldn't worry.

Perhaps if you let it drip drain an hour a few more oz. would come out?

-W

Let it sit overnight and you will get most of it out. If it's cold, it will take longer. Like Clams said, as long as it's the right color, it's OK...

Are you taking the top plug out when you drain it? Not to incinuate that you do not know what youre doing, but Ive seen people try to drain it without doing this! Just a thought! Yes, drain it over night!

Re: Outboard gear lube

My problem was I was not waiting long enough. I waited about 8 hours for it to drain then I was able to get the 22 oz in it that it calls for. Thanks group!

Bill
