Outboard life expectancy **2005 140HP Suzuki**

I'm curious what the life expectancy of a 2005 Suzuki 140HP 4 stroke outboard is? Currently it has ~400hrs so it's been used. Warranty for the outboard expires 2011. This is a first boat purchase for me, so I'm not sure what the warranty covers. But I have a feeling, I shouldn't count on it...

Also, what kind of periodic maintenance are involved in 4 stroke outboards?

If the price is right,I'd buy it without issue.

With proper maintanance I'd expect to get a couple thousand hours out of a newer Suzuki.

My brothers got a 115 that has a ton of hours (hes cheap and doesn't have an hour meter) . Its very quiet,still sips fuel and runs like a top.

I'm very impressed with the Suzukis.

You MUST have an Owner's Manual and it is a good idea to have a Service Manual, too. They will guide you to proper maintenance.

With good maintenance and minimum or no abuse and/or neglect I would expect around 5000 hours of reliable operation before any thing major is needed.
