The gauges flat lining probably means you have a bad connection or wire in the system. That should have made it crank.
Might want to try what @Jeff J suggested. It should be just aft of the starter. Big, black and round. Might be a bit buried behind other stuff.
Spray some contact cleaner in it when you have it apart. Then plug - unplug and repeat a few times.
back at the motor

I have pictures of the wiring and the gear box here. Go past the pictures of the tree.

The yellow/red wire should go from key switch into the throttle and then out of the throttle to engine harness. Shouldn't go the gauges.
Suggest you go to the engine and find the main harness. It will be by the starter and starter solenoid. You may need to remove the battery cables to get to it, so disconnect the battery first. This is where all the wires from the boat connect to the engine. It is a big round plug and socket that will have 9 metal pins and sockets inside when you pull it apart. Try and clean these pins and socket to make sure they make good electrical contact. Pay close attention to how everything fits. It's usually a rats nest near there and getting it all out and back in place can be tough. Take pictures as you go because you will want to replace any tie straps and stuff back where they came from.
