i am trying to get info like year this motor is <br />model 559hc ser. 6287<br />looking for spec. for points and plug type gap for both. need to know at what degree it is for advance timing any help would be a blessing.

Hi Larry,<br />I blew it!<br />motor is a 1971<br />pts set at .018<br />timing max at 32 degrees<br />Spark plug = UL18V surface gap with mag ing.<br />L77J4C @ .040 as alternent plug<br />the L82C is for Std.ing. gap at .030<br />sorry<br />...have fun...corm

The last two numbers of the serial number on outboard engines is the year of construction, so yours is a 1987 model.<br />Cheers
