Hi all...
I have a 16ft 1973 kelly marine bass buggy.. ( wow what a wonderful name eh! ) Its basically a skiff style boat. open total max allowed weigh fr boat and motor motor is 1150lbs I was looking something like a 10-25 hp range. If I put a 15 hp motor on it what speed would i expect... I dont need it to fly just have power to go agaisnt the flow on the withlahoochee river if i go flats fishing.
Thanks in advanced for the help

should be a plate on it for max hp. i would think a 50hp to move that weight, and won't be a speed demon, also has to be propped properly so the motor creates enough rpms.

WOW! 1600 lbs and 25 hp. you would be under powered at 50hp.
Sure you can move the boat with a 25 but it will be working its heart out.
If you go with a 50 you will make the same speed at about 1/2 throttle, use
about the same fuel and the motor will be loafing.
The 25 sure isn't likely to plane 1600 lbs so besides being slow will be under
the most strain operating at the most inefficient hull speed.
There is a slim chance with very careful setup maybe some smart tabs you can plane with a 50 and perhaps get a cruising speed. Both motors will have to be propped carefully to be able to reach ideal rpm range.
If you just want to chug along at say 8 or 9 mph the 15 will do it but again will be close to max output compared to the 25 or 50 and will need to be propped carefully as well.
Don't forget you may need some emergency speed for some reason in the course of events.

hi i dont know where i got 1600 lbs....... I just went back out and checked... the total max wieght ... pasengers motor is 1150lbs.. And the plate does say 60 hp max....
That 500 lbs less makes a difference but i guess i will try my 50 hp johnson... ( now that its working ok...)

Thanks all..
