I have 1970 even. 25 hp. on a seanymph 146. the cavitation plate sets 2 inch's below the bottom of boat. would I get better performance if I raise the motor 2 inch's? it seems I sould get better performance with me and another person on board. thanks

Re: outboard mounting ?

Level with the keel if possible or even up to an inch higher. Watch your water pick up

Re: outboard mounting ?

thanks Bob, the water pickup is just below cavitation plate so should be fine. just wondering if it would make performance any better. thanks again

Best speed will be with the motor as high as you can get it while maintaining pickup water pressure...that's what jackplates do but they make the need for a low water pickup and a different prop. For practical use, raise it one mounting hole at a time until it starts cavitating in turns. Stay there if the cavitation doesn't bug you. For skiing it will be too high at that point. Generally speaking it's approx 2" above the bottom on most ob boats.
