I have pontoon with a barely used yamaha 50 two stroke on the back. The lake I have it in has a terrible seaweed problem. The seaweed can get tangled in the prop at slow speeds which causes it to bog down. I cleaned it off and it still bogged. I put it in reverse and revved the rpm's up and it worked like a charm.
Is this the correct solution or is there something I else I can do? I am afraid of getting stuck out there with kids. Thanks.

Reversing does usually clear a weed problem. However running in a very weeding lake where you are afraid of getting stuck is not very comforting and unfortunately, there is not much you can do about it.

Yes reversing can clear weeds needless to say weeds can also get wound up
in reverse.I believe there are certain devices said to be weedless or weed resistant. The ducted prop comes to mind. I would assume some areas are weed free. You may be able to learn the clear areas.

i also think i would put a temp guage, or water pressure guage, on it. the weeds can clog the water pump. thus burning up the motor.
