Outboard runing WOT out of the blue

Tonight i was out fishing and when i was coming in all of a sudden the motor went full throttle out of the blue and sounded very strange like it was not under load . the front of the boat went up the back end sunk and the engine revved up like no tomorrow . So i throttled back down and started giving it gas again and as i did i got to about maybe 1/4 throttle and started noticing it runing a little rough and sputtering then all of a sudden it did it again . i cut the engine and then it didnt want to crank back up after a few minutes it started and got to half throttle and i started to plane it out and it did it again . also i noticed a good but of smoke coming out of the exhaust more than usual any ideas? :confused:

the best way to describe the sound it made is like when you have the muffs on it out of the water. sounded like it was not under load when it did this .
i am thinking carb maybe going lean but the fuel lines have all been changed and the carb and float rebuilt

The rubber hub in you propeller has loosen,you need a new prop.

I pulled my prop off today and it looks fine . but that sounds like it would be right based on what it did . any suggestions on a good brand of prop? also if i increase pitch from a 15 pitch to more pitch to increase my top speed will it cause problems or should i stick with a 15 pitch . and whats a good way to make it weedless

Props can be re-built. A prop shop will press the hub out and replace the rubber and press it back together. To see if the hub is spun, use a marker and draw a line from side to side across the prop nut. Next time you go out and it happens, look at the line to see if it isn't straight across. What motor do you have?

A good way to make it weedless is stay out of the weeds. :)

i have a mercury 35 hp 1986 elpto its a SS 15 pitch
