Bull,

Do just as you would for normal winterizing. Treat the fuel with stabilizer, drain and refill lower unit, fog the engine, Ect. Here's a link:

web page

Re: outboard storage

Thank RB.

Phat- i will be storing it inside my house. I know the weather is great, but i haven't had the time to get out. I was thinking of going sometime this week to the local canal and trying to catch dinner.

Re: outboard storage

Be sure to run it enough to get the stabilized gas into the carb. After 6 months I would refill w/ fresh gas first. I agree w/ phatmanmike, the temperature has been in the teens & the bay is covered w/ ice & all I can think about is getting out on the water. Florida always sounds nice this time of year.

Re: outboard storage

Fuel stabilizer is great stuff (especially the OMC brand IMHO) and should be added to the fuel. You are lucky with the 1970's model. I never had a clogged carb except the rare stuck float valve on my 6 HP which I ran in salt water without a cowling for 15 years! Upgraded to a "new" 1990 model about 4 years ago and the dang carb needs rebuilding anytime it evaporates dry, usually after sitting in Florida heat for about 6 months. Anyway, on the old 6 HP I ran the carb dry before storage and it worked fine, on the "new" one, I choke it to stall while flushing, squeeze the fuel primer bulb hard, leave the choke out, and put it in storage. This seems to work. I really wish I could fit the old 1970's carb on the 1990 motor.
