I just bought a used temperature gauge for my '78 Mercury Blackmax (200 HP). The gauge is a Medallion. Do I need a temp. sensor for this particular gauge or can I simply connect it to my old sensor?

-- John

I don't know if anybody can answer that question without knowing what sensor the gauge is designed for and what sensor you already have. Best bet, hook it up and see if it works.

Re: Outboard Temperature Gauge Sensor??

I hooked up the gauge to my old sender and it did not work properly. The previous temp gauge was probably from 1971 (when the boat was new). When the engine was running at normal operating temperature the gauge was reading 100 degrees or less.

The sender I have now is held onto the outside of the head by a bracket. It measures the metal temperature, not the water temp.

This is the gauge: Medallion Marine Temperature Gauge

I have not been able to find any information on the Medallion temp gauge.

Any help in determining the correct sender would be greatly appreciated!

-- John
