Gooday All It's Friday!!

I have little 4hp outboard that I will transporting without the boat on the weekends on some rough roads. If just throw it in the back of the truck I am sure the thing would be in pieces by the time I get to my camp (it's a first gear, need 4 wheel drive type road). I have heard of people making a wooden box with a divider down the middle so the motor clamps to that as if it would to the transom. The rest of the box has some Styrofoam for extra protection. Does anyone have any experience with this set up, or have any plans I can follow to build one. Also if anyone has a different set-up I would love to hear it so I can make a decision on the best way to secure and transport my motor on those rough roads. Thanks in advance for your response.

Jackpine

Re: Outboard Transportation On Rough Roads

Get an old blanket and wrap it up! Make sure it's laying down on a side without any shift handles to get broken, etc. Also, wedge it into a corner with some soft luggage or sleeping bags, or tie it in place to prevent it from sliding around too much. I've carted more than my share of motors around in the back of my truck, and I keep the old blanket handy for that purpose....

For my Dad's restored antiques, he made up a plywood motor stand/box that holds everything in place and simply lays on its back. The motor clamps onto a 2x6 motor board in the center of the box and suspends it from contacting the truck, other motors, etc. We have an eye down lower with a rope attached to keep the lower unit from moving around... Works very well...

- Scott
