Merc 115 1998 left trimmed down. Boat loaded onto trailer and pulled out. Motor skeg (bottom fin) drug up ramp about 5 feet. Skeg roughed up, but still straight. No damage to prop. Have not run motor yet. Anybody done same thing? Damage to expect?

If the damage is only affecting the looks of it (still in shape) there is no problem.

The skeg is there for protection. Although that would normally be understood as 'when running at sea' your motor wouldn't know the difference...

There are fittings to repair/reinforce skegs. Try a search in this site for 'skeg'.

Re: outboard trimmed down on ramp

I did the first time out in my new boat. the motor was running too, but only for a few feet.

It's kind of driving for a bit with the parking brake on. There probably was some damage, but are not really sure how much, or what you should do about it.

I hope your boating day was othewise good. Mine was. :)

Stuff happens.
