Outboard up or down when using bow troller?

I noticed if I have my lower unit out of the water when the troller is running the boat swings too easy from side to side with the slightest breeze.
When the lower unit is in the water its a lot more stable.
But when I'm also dragging the lower unit through the water I'm sure its wasting the batteries juice.

So do you usually run with the lower unit . . .

Up

or

Down

While trolling with an electric?

My rigs a 14.9 Lund aluminum side console with a 55 MK bow mount

Thx

Leave it down unless you are operating in shallow water. At the speed you are going with the troller, drag is insignificant with the engine down.

Thanks silvertip, i do notice at the 1.2 mph I usually troll at the boats a lot steadier as the lower leg acts like a sailboats skeg on my smallish rig. I just wondered at how much loss of battery power. But what you say makes sense as too not much since its moving so slow.
