Outboard won't raise

Hey guys! I have a Johnson outboard motor (Javelin)..1974 or 1975. Took it out and it ran smoothly like charm. Got it home and lowered the motor to let it dry out. Went to raise it and can't do it. I keep hearing a "click" sound coming from the box it is connected to, hen I press the button to raise it, but it just won't budge.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm not too experienced with motors. I usually have someone work on mine. But if this is something I can fix myself..all the better for learning.

Also, what part of the motor is the trim?

Thanks a bunch

Re: Outboard won't raise

check all the wires for corrosion ,loose connections, all grounds .I believe you have an older 3 wire motor, you can trace the wires from the motor to the box, again look at the connections, they do get diry.DOES THE ENGINE STILL GO DOWN?the wires from the trim and tilt motor will be black blue and green,if you disconnect them at the box,you can put power directly to them, black is always negative,if you put positive to blue (think up,for sky)it will raise, green(green grass is down)it will lower,if for some reaon the motor wont spin,it can be a motor in the TNT system failed.Be sure to check connections at the control box too,it dont take much corrosion to make it go click.also look for a fuse in the box,but that likely wont be the problem if you hear click. If you need to raise the eng, look on the portside? for a hole in the engine mountin bracket ,it will show a slotted head screw ,that is a manual release for the TNT system.Loosen the screw,IT DONT COME OUT,loosen only, then lift up the lower end of the eng.once up.tighten the screw again, you can also use the trailer lock to hold the engine in place,it has a square shaper handle on both sides of the engine,it can be rusty ,dont be suprised if its missing either,a block of wood also OK to hold eng up
