Hey guys,

Ive been having a problem with starting my boat. When I try to start it in neutral it will try to start but wont fire up. But when I push the button(throttle only) in on the Quicksilver controller and move the arm forward and then start it. It will start everytime.

When I move it back down to neutral it has a hard time keeping it running. Usually will not stay running in neutral.

Ive cleaned my carburetors but that didnt seem to do anything. The boat runs fine in forward/reverse just wont start in neutral.

I have read that it may be the Neutral Safety Switch and that it is located in the control arm. What does the NSS look like and anyone know how to get at it? Ive gotten the entire Quicksilver unit mount off but dont know where the NSS is located or how to fix the NSS once I do find it? I also read that I may have to turn a neutral screw somewhere on my merc? Sorry new to boating have no idea where thats located. I have a 70hp mercury

This is the Quicksilver controller I have: (ps whats the switch on the right for?)

What year and size motor do you have? More info is needed. As far as the switch that is to shut down your engine if it is the down position it will not start.
Here is how I start my motor I have a 1986 merc 175hp Make sure the switch is up the one you are referring to I put it in neutral give it a little forward throttle hold the key in and turn it over starts up every time. I let it warm up a bit and bring it to neutral position.
