outborad knocking

I have a 1979 45 hp chrysler outborad, that came out of gear over rev and now it has a bad knock in it still runing but sounds bad. were do I go from here would like to save it if can.

Don't start it again.
Take the head off.Look for damage on the pistons and cylinder walls.
The stbd.side has 2 covers,remove them and check for piston damage/slap etc.
Then try the other end,remove the intake and check the loosnes of the connecting rods etc.
Look for any thing suspect.J
