You should repost this in the Yamaha forum. It sounds like your carbs had stuck floats (gas leaks) which then unstuck themselves (no leaks)

Fiest of all you are in the prop forum. You'll get more help in the Yamaha
section. However you probably just flooded it.Or possibly one or more floats were stuck in the carbs. If the boat was not run for a long time before you tried it. You would need to squeeze thev primer bulb to fill the carbs if the bulb didn't get hard it would indicate the floats were stuck open. After running it they may have freed up.

If the carbs continue to leak, you will need to replace the floats and/or inlet needles.

To winterize an outboard, put fuel stabilizer into fuel tank mix it up and run the motor for a few minutes on the flush device to get the stabilized fuel into the carbs. Now spray some fogging oil into the carb throats until the motor starts smoking and stalls. Pump some new grease into the grease fittings, grease the steering rod and drain and refill the gearcase. Spray the powerhead with some corrosion inhibitor. Disconnect and charge the battery.
