there are millions of motors out there that are running fine with broken, damaged skegs.

thank you for the replies, I figured that there had to be something made in this great US that would fix this, I may look further into this , just got the winter blues about my boat and want it to be ready this spring. I got in low water this fall and it took a peice out of the skeg in the back right before the prop, Im sure the prop has a ding on it also, anyway thank again, Bruce

That is true, but the skeg is there for some protection of the prop as well. It will run fine without a skeg but the next time you hit something the prop will be the part that gets damaged.

your best and most cost effective option is to take it to your local prop repair shop and have it repaired properly.

Agree on both points. I had an older motor with practically NO skeg left. It ran and handled just fine. It also ate props. New boat has the full skeg. Same water for boating. Much easier on props. Used prop here is about $80. Prop repair is about $25 to $40. You do the math. Knowing what I know now, if I were keeping that boat and motor, I should have got the skeg repaired on it.

I agree, but a prop shop won't give you the best deal.
I used to have a guy down the street fix my skeg for $40. He owned a welding shop and always made it look as good as new.

Re: outdrive bottom fin

I posted this and I really thank you for all these replys, I pulled out the engine from my 86 regal by way of a two truck boom and rebuild it in my garage, and after all this work and getting it put back in thanks to peters marine here where I live in pa who put it back in for me and I just want to keep this boat as she has a lot of me in it, anyway, It has a lot on skeg on the front just a little broke off in the back, but what I saw to fix this is cheap and I will get this fixed for opening day, I want to post a picture of the boat with my egyptbruce heading, I live in whitehall{egypt} hence the login address, thanks again to all you great boaters , as I go on this site every now and then, bruce
