To sum up my senerio I have a 1995 Bayliner Capri 1854, 3.0 I/O,, the block cracked and I installed a 3.0 engine out of a 1989 Searay. Motor is in and most things just plugged in and seems fine,, first difference is this fill bottle for the outdrive,, it has two wires which I assume go to the low fluid warning alarm,, key word is ASSUME.. Anyway should I just tape them up and forget about it or is there an easy way to hook it up,, I'd really like it to work. More to follow as i'm sure i'll run into more problems... Thanks and Happy Holidays..

First of all, It's NOT a fill bottle. It's only a reservoir of gear lube to keep the drive full in case of a leak. It gear lube will also turn milky if water gets in the drive.
If you look in your OEM service manual you probably already downloaded, go to the wiring diagrams for your engine and you will see how the reservoir alarm is wired in and the color code.

PS: You are in the I/O forum. Just look at the top of the page where the title of your post is.

You can ignore the wires if you want to, but if you'd like to know when your outdrive reservoir is empty, ground the black wire and take the tan/blue wire to the junction of the other tan/blue. (Follow the temperature alarm sending wire.)

Thanks,, I pulled up the manual on the 1989 engine wiring and they must not have had the outdrive low oil warning, all their wiring shows is oil pressure and engine temp warning. I've noticed a difference in the wiring on switches on the valve cover also but I havn't gotten to them yet. Thanks..

Ayuh,........

That's because the 89 is an Alpha 1,.....
And,......
The 95 is an Alpha 1, Gen.II..........

There were No monitor bottles, nor their Plumbing on the earlier Alphas....

Assuming bites me again. I Assumed when he said he installed an 89 engine, that he used an 89 longblock type change and kept all the accessories off the 95.

Yes and when I started I Assumed the people that told me that everything would be the same knew what they were talking about. and even when I did a post about the wiring and different plugs the response I got was that it was plug and play,, all the same... Wrong, wrong wrong,, live and learn..

oK Broke....if you want that bottle alarm to work, take one wire and ground it, take the other wire and hook it up to the overheat switch wire and your'e done. And don't complain when the alarm sounds every time you hit a wave.

Yea I figure running out of outdrive oil is the very least of my worries. Plug and pray is absolutely correct,, actually plug and duck the first time you crank it over is more like it.... We'll see this weekend when I throw the batteries in it.. Hope the hospital has wireless internet..
