Outdrive Gasket Problem

I was installing my outdrive today and I ran into a problem. The gasket that mounts the outdrive has bulged a bit right next to where the water inlet o-ring is located. I was wondering if this is ok or if I should pull the outdrive and install a noew gasket. If I do need to install a new gasket, can I leave the large rubber o-ring and o-rings on the drive shaft? I just changed them as they were part of the kit.

Ayuh,.... My guess is ya over-tightened the nuts, or the o-ring fell outa place...

The gasket kit is only $6. or $7. bucks,....(sierra) Replace it All, even if the o-rings look good...

Re: Outdrive Gasket Problem

I do not understand how I overtightened. I tourqued them to 50 foot lbs as per the manual. The large rubber ring and the o rings on the shaft are newly installed today as was the gasket. Maybe the water o ring did slip. I will pull it and check it out I guess. Its just a pain in the *** to install it by my self. I cant get the front of the trailer low enough to raise the bell housing high enough.
Thanks for the input bond o

have you tried backing the trailer wheels onto some wood for spacers to raise the tires.

You know I just though about that. That would make sense wouldnt it. Is it always a pain installing these things?
