Replacing the raw water impeller, I am of course draining out the gear oil.

When I looked at the bottles I got delivered yesterday I realized that I had ordered Premium (which afaik is dino 75W90 gear oil) instead of the Performance synthetic 90wt stuff.
Only a couple months left in the season, should I be okay using this and then switching back to synth for next season if i let it drain all the way?
Is there a way to "flush" it?

The old stuff was black black black, like comes out of my diesel, and a whole lot of flakes on the drain plug magnet.
Hopefully my drive lasts a few more seasons, but poorly-maintained strikes again. Hoping that changing the oil now and again at the end of the season saves it.

Premium is cheap lube for use below 75 HP. So no don’t use it.

To “flush” a drive that had the wrong oil used. Drain and refill with the right lube and run 10 minutes no load. Drain and refill with the right lube and run 10 minutes light load. Drain and refill.

Sounds like your drive has an internal problem or lack of maintenance already. All the more reason to use the correct lube.

Just noticed I can pick up the right stuff at wallyworld. Heading there now, will send back the wrong stuff I'd ordered.

Thanks Muc, you're right I don't need to make my drive any worse.
