Outdrive: Little white connector into drive is broke?

(1991 alpha one 3.0L) Ok i'm in the shop right now, I've lubed the shaft the u joints and the gimble bearing, I've installed the new bellhousing seal and o ring, and I noticed one small detail. When I took the drive off there was a small hose running to the back of the outdrive with a white coupler on it. That little white coupler broke when I pulled the drive off. What is that thing, and what does the hose do?

I will await instruction.

The hose is for the speedometer, will not work if not connected.

Thats all that will be effected.

Dude you rock, my speedo wasn't working to begin with so that means it was broke before I pulled off the drive, which means you fixed my speedo and saved the day. thanks RJ
