I just bought a 1979 Century 18' i/o with a 305 chevy motor. I heard a kind of ticking noise when I reved the motor up in drive coming from the outdrive. When I spin the prop with my hand in nuetral, you can hear the same kind of ticking noise, which ticks more the faster you spin it. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this noise. I have never taken an outdrive apart, but I am not affarid to tackle the job. Just need a point in the right direction as what I should be looking for. Thanks for the help.

Re: Outdrive noise.... Help please.

I have owned very few outdrives that didnt do that.Try lowering the drive while you hear the clicking.Usually the higher the drive, the louder the clicking and visa/versa.I would not be concerned. As long as the drive engages in fwd and rev cleanly,it will be fine.Charlie
