I just finished painting my Mercruiser Outdrive....came out pretty good. Now for my question: next season I plan on getting a slip and leaving the boat in the water, should I paint the outdrive with anti-fouling (bottom) paint? What about the transom housing? I really don't want to spray paint near the boat. Should I paint the transom assembly with bottom paint also? I heard about some clear spray on anti-fouling paint, anybody know anything about it?

Re: Outdrive Paint

hello
DO NOT
and i will shout again DO NOT paint anything on your drive with bottom paint. it will be nasty. the manual states no bottom paint within 1 inch of the transom assy. use the special paints for aluminium.
good luck and keep posting

Re: Outdrive Paint

Tony you will have to antifoul paint the drive and the transom assembly as well as the lift cylinders.there used to be some great clear aerasol paints but they are no longer available.Too toxic.Just a year or two ago you had a choice of a few.Now you are forced to use a flat black paint specifically for aluminum. So much for your nice paint job.The new paints will make it look crappy compared to how nice it must look now.Dont use a clear paint put out by dolfinite!!!!!It is crap and does not antifoul,if anything it attracts more growth.Charlie
