Outdrive question ... after winter storage ... possible leak?

I did my own impeller replacement in the fall (Oct). Then filled with fresh Merc green syn lube. Then winterized engine and fogged. Stored boat all winter with drive down. Picking up the boat today I noticed a film of oil on the right side of the outdrive below the case split. There looks like a weep hole. There was about a three inch by half inch spot that was enough just to wet one fingertip. After wiping it with my finger it is green -- the same color as the outdrive oil.

I know the carrier is on this right side. Possible that the o-ring did not seat properly? Or is that much seepage normal for 5-6 months?

Should I drain the oil, split the case and double check the o-ring?

2001 Alpha 1 Gen II drive.

Thanks!

Yes That hole is a drain for the front of the case so water doesnt freeze and crack the case. I would guess the o ring is missing or not seated square in the hole for the oring. I use yellow death to hold the oring in. Some times know as monkey snot.

I have been keeping an eye on this. I would pull the outdrive oil drain screw and check for water intrusion after each outing (about 4 outings and 10 hours). None. It still continued to drip a few drops now and then.

Last night I split the outdrive case and confirmed my suspicions. I left out the blasted seal.  I used some perfect seal to hold it in place until I got the halves back together. Just in case some water did get in I replaced the fluid with new Merc Gear+ oil.

It was the first time I had DIY my winter maintenance, so live and learn. Won't happen again  ;)

It is item #7 in this diagram:

oil carrier seal

A little less Radical than Vinney's Monkey Snot......
A Spot of Grease, Holds the oring quite Nicely..........
And,
Leaves No residue.................... ;)
