Hello all, I just pulled the drive off my boat to replace the waterpump and grease the bearings etc.
I'm looking at the gimbal bearing which looks fine to me. Exactly how do you check one to see if it's bad. It doesn't have any "flop' in it or anything and seems to turn fine. BTW, the boat has 4.3 Chev. Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive. (91 Model).
Also, one other quick question.Ummm, I have the Quicksilver Drive/Bell housing gasket kit, part #27-94996Q 2. It has the gasket the the big O-ring type gasket (about 4" in diameter) and 1 black O-ring. I know where they go, but where in the heck do the 3 red O-rings go? I know 1 of them goes on the water port hole. There's 2 on the end of the drive shaft, do they go there? I'm looking but can't figure out exactly where they go.
Thanks for any help!

Re: Outdrive Question

Welcome to iboats......You are correct on both counts.... :) ....As long as the bearing moves freely & has no rough spots, you are good to go.....JK

Re: Outdrive Question

The three red orings go on the drives input shaft. Some take 3 some take just the 2 of the same size. They help prevent the shaft from freezing inside the gimbal bearing.
