Outdrive question

I have a 96 sundowner 245 with volvo 5.8 I am going to service outdrive. I have had for a year and not sure if anything has ever been done. first I am not sure what out drive I have. It has been painted. How do I determine which unit is on boat to order parts. Second I am going to change ujoints, gimble if needed and check impeller. What is a list of parts or gaskets and seals that I am going to need. I appreciate it.

What are all the letters after 5.8F? The boat year really doesn't matter, and Volvo built over a dozen versions of the 5.8. Figuring out your drive model will be easier that way. Single or dual props?

Volvo mounts the seawater pump (housing the impeller) on the crankshaft at the front of the engine. It should be replaced every 2 years at a minimum...preferably yearly.

I am thinking it is a sx but not sure. Not sure how many different types they had in 96.

Your model number is going to look similar to this:

58LGLPNCD

Yours will be a bit different because you fave fuel injection and the "NC" may be either "LK" or "HU" depending on when it was made.

Where do I find the model Number? Is that on the motor? I will have to look when I get home. Does part of that number give me the outdrive type

How to identify your engine or drive

There should be a tag on the starboard side of the motor near the exhaust manifold and also at the stern on the transom plate.

If you have a 1996, you have an SX drive

It's an SX drive and there were a few "versions" of the SX drive with minor changes but for what you're doing, the parts are most likely interchangable. I just like being sure before pointing you to parts and manuals.
