My Bravo 3 had some nasty looking galvanic corrosion around the edges of the top cover, as well as a couple of dime sized spots on the drive. I repainted the top cover and spot painted the drive. I bought the minimum available quantities of PPG chemicals and paint to refinish per the factory specs (cleaners, etchants, conversion coatings, epoxy primer, urethane paint, hardeners, catalysts, etc) and it came to just over $200. I already had all the body work stuff (sandblaster, compressor, spray gun, etc). The top cover and drive look like new now and will hopefully last a long time.

Looks like the reason the top cover corroded was because it was never completely painted on the lower surface.

I still have about 90% of the supplies that I didn't need that anyone else is welcome to use. If anyone in the southern Louisiana / southern Mississippi area needs to clean up some corrosion on their drive and can bring their boat to Slidell we could probably do it in a couple of hours.

Looks good to me Keith. I have had great luck on my Merc drive without the abrasive blast and the factory finishes. I find blasting very dirty and dangerous to those lacking the experience and equipment. Think about lead, zinc and other bad compounds in older marine coatings. I really like the aliphatic urethanes for re-finishing. These are self priming and withstand the rigors of immersion service quite well at a fraction the cost of the factory stuff. Just remember to never paint under the galvanic anodes or it will take far more than a coat of paint to fix the resulting erosion of the drive metal.
