Thanks to Fun Times for helping me identify my engine in an earlier thread. I have the following:

MERCRUISER 5.7L BRAVO 5.7L BRAVO MERCRUISER - (5.7L H.P. (1998))
Serial No: 0L378078 Model No: 4312025LS

Now here is my issue. I needed to replace the transom assembly so I purchased an Alpha 1 Gen 1 transom assembly as recommended by the guy working on my boat. He installed it and was able to align the engine. Next is the outdrive which hasn't been installed yet. Is this going to be a problem having an Alpha 1 Gen 1 transom assembly and outdrive with a newer engine? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

You're going to need to put an Alpha shift plate and shift interrupt switch on the engine...

Why not pick up a Bravo transom assembly? What was wrong with your original transom assembly?

Thanks a million Chris. I will look into that. The old transom assembly was corroded and the steering was loose. Too late to put another transom assembly...the alpha 1 Gen 1 it's already installed and aligned.

did the alpha 1 shift plate begin the starboard exhaust manifold position era? my MC1 set up has the shift plate on the bell housing mount behind the engine, or was the change in position something within MC1 early and later models?

Originally the shift plate was on the top of the inner transom plate, up against the inside of the transom. That was a real pain when it came to setting up and adjusting things. Next it was moved to the back of the engine, above the flywheel. Eventually it was moved to the starboard exhaust elbow, and that makes adjustments and checking things a lot easier.... Not exactly sure when that happened, sometime in the 80s....
