I have tried Bondo's advice to lift and drop the outdrive. I have done it 7 or 8 times. It is still stuck like glue. Any other tricks I can try? Dynamite?

Re: Outdrive still won't come loose

I had that problem once, It would not let loose, at the advice of another boater, I used 80lb spider line (braided fishing line) Its pretty thin and I was able to wiggle it in between the gasket surfaces and use it just like your flossing your teeth. It took me about 20 minutes, but I was able to tear up enough of the old gasket for it to come loose. Hope this helps, if not you might as well try a thin screwdriver between the two, but it is not recomended, unless you are very carefull not to scar the metal. Good Luck....

Hey 3X7,
Do you have Any Idea how long it's been since the drive has been Off ????
I'm thinking you're going to have to get Much More Forceful ..........
Either someone Glued the drive on,
Or,
The input shaft is Rusted/Stuck in the Gimbel Bearing,+/or the Coupler.........
Did you try Throwing it Down against the block of wood ????
Did you try using the Trim Rams to Force it Out ?????
The Next Step,
Is to tie the drive to a Solid Object,+ Hauling the Boat Away from it.......(Ayah, with a Truck ;) )

Bondo you crack me up. I did use the block of wood but I didn't really throw it. It seems like I'm going to rip it out of the transom. And I did not try the trim to force it out yet. Bondo, since you seem to have a lot of patience with amatures like me I'm going to continue to show my ignorance. How would using the the hydrolics put more force on it than lifting it by hand? It seems like that is all it would do is lift it. I know I'm missing something there, but I don't know what.

I really don't know how long it has been since it was pulled. The guy I bought if from said he had the boot (I think between the outdrive and transom.) replaced a year or so previously. So, if that's true it would have been two or three years.
All of the bolts came off easily enough. But my suspicion is that it has been a lot longer than that. So that's a long way to say "I really don't know."

It seems like I'm going to rip it out of the transom.
Well,
IF that Happens.........
You Needed a New Transom AnyWay............ :D

To Start,
Try the Block of Hardwood,+ THROW it to the Down position............As Hard as you Can..!!....

Using the rams will in fact lift it a bit,
But is Also Pushing Out, as well as Up.......
Actually it pushes Out, More than Up....(the rams are Horizonal, not Vertical)
And,
If you position a block of Hardwood at the Top of the Drive,+ Jam it against the Transom Shield(so it Can't go Up),
All the pressure will be Out, Not Up......

I Think you need to be Much More Forceful......
A Block of Hardwood,+ a BFHammer.....

The Truck,+ Tree Is Extreme,
But,
I've Been There, Done That....................... ;)

Okay. I told my wife - I bet if Bondo were here he would have it off of there in about 5 minutes.
I will give that a try later today. I had to quit for a while and come up to the office. I'll keep you up to date on my attempts.

BTW - I see what you mean on the rams now.
Stay with me on this, I'm leaning on you.

Bondo - Success! The board and a good smash or two and finally it seperated.
Now I have to get a manual. After I got it off and had my celebration I stood there looking at it thinking - hmm, what the heck do I do now?
The good news is everything visable appears to be in good condition.
