Outdrive trim

I replaced my 1992 VP 570A engine with a 2002 VP 5.7Gi-BF. Despite the 10-year difference, the controls plug from the dashboard plugged directly into the newer engine. I hooked up batteries, the outdrive controls (trim) do not operate; the outdrive is stuck in down position.

The newer engine has a small 2-wire connector/plug labelled Trim Sender, I'm not aware of any place to connect it. I've examined the wiring emanating from the trim motor, don't see a connector dangling from it. My belief is the old trim motor is wired directly to the battery; of course it never worked if the battery switch is Off, but used to work when the battery was switched On (1, 2, or All).

I could certainly use help or advice, if anyone has any knowledge about this matter.

Thanks,
Woody

PS - I haven't yet tried doing anything else with the motor, hadn't even tried turning it over. I'm still connecting the last components (exhaust, throttle, etc.). I'll be adding fluids and trying to turn the key soon.

Talked to my cousin (VP Marine Dealer / Mechanic), he said the Trim Sender is for the display on the dashboard, shouldn't affect the up/down operation; he advised checking the relays. I finished connecting components, adding fluids and such; turned on the battery and bumped the key, the engine made The Noise, tried to turn over. So I guess I'll actually try starting it, next; soon...
