Hello I have a 2007 stingray 180rx 3.0 with a Volvo sx-a drive. Last season I noticed the boat would trim up on its own, its a very low hour boat and never left in water and always stored indoors, it still has the old trim pump that is known for failure so I just assumed its leaking oil out and somehow letting water in and that's shorting something out. But this boat never leaks a drop of trim fluid at all. Anyways one night in the garage I was cleaning the interior and I turned the wheel hard to the left and it started trimming up, so it happens out of water too. I could constantly make it trim up by burying the wheel hard left. So next time I had it out while just idling around I tried it again hard left and it trims up, it won't do it when underway only at idle and sometimes at idle it will trim up on its own without being hard left. I;m assuming its got to be a short in a wire somewhere would anyone happen to known what wire it may be?

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Somewhere at the transom, probably near the steerin' gear, where trim wires run closely by it,......

Find the trim pump sending wires coming out of the transom assembly and inspect for signs of pinching or damage.

Hey guys thanks for the input, so I checked this evening and right by the steering ram there is a mess of wires and one even has a factory tag that says trim switch. So I started moving them around and sure enough as i played with that wire harness up went the trim so it was that wire getting caught up in the steering ram I pulled the wires out and I am going zip tie them outta the way. I know I have a short in one of those wires somewhere but I can't get it to do it anymore so I am going try it out and see if it will be fine just having the wires out of the way of every thing. As far as the turning left and trimming up that should solve that problem but sometimes it would trim up on its own at idle even without turning the wheel I assume since the 3.0 is known to idle a little rough I am guessing the vibration affects that short and makes it trim and probably why it doesn't while underway cause the engine smooths out and the vibration is gone. Anyways I didn't have my phone with me tonight but I will try to snap and post some pics of the problem for others who are having this problem or maybe for others to check their wires before they have the problem like me. Thanks again for any help and I will post pics update as often as I can as things progress with this situation. I don't like to troll forums looking for answers and not posting the resolutions for others who may need help.
